Shikha Gautam, a UPSC candidate from Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr, checked her result on March 6 “in a hurry” and celebrated her “success” with her family. Her story was even picked up by the media as that of the daughter of a worker who had passed the civil service examination.

But the celebration did not last long.
In the word “hurry up” mentioned, Shikha forgot that there can be more than one person with the same name. It was, in fact, another Shikha from Rohtak Haryana who cleared the UPSC exam. The Bulandshahr candidate has now apologized for her mistake.
She forgot to check her registration number, and was celebrated with a “victory march.”
Shiikha Gautam started celebrating as soon as she saw her name mentioned in the PDF of the result, but she forgot to check her registration number. She was not the only one in her family who made this mistake.
Her family also joined in the celebrations, and a huge local celebration was held attended by her parents and grandparents with 1,200 people in attendance. Sweets were distributed in this “victory march,” and the media covered its “success story.” A worker’s daughter has passed one of the most difficult exams in the world.
“My sister Shikha secured 113th rank in IAS exams in her second attempt… She has always been hardworking. It was her vision to become a teacher earlier… My mother is a homemaker. I am very proud of my sister,” her brother told local media.
The interesting thing about all this is that no one realized that Shikha had not even cleared the UPSC Civil Services Examination (CSE) and hence could not, in fact, be eligible to clear the whole thing.
Shikha apologizes for the confusion
Now, Shikha Gautam has apologized for her confusion and admitted that she only saw the word ‘Shikha’ mentioned in the PDF result, and not the register number.
“The person selected is different, Sheikha. Since our names are the same and I also only checked the name in the PDF file and did not check the roll number, it was my mistake,” she told news agency ANI.
This is not the first case of mistaken identity to be revealed in the final result of UPSC Civil Services Examination 2025. Earlier, Akansha Singh was from Ara district in Bihar He also claimed to have secured rank 301 in the UPSC CSE 2025 exam. However, a day later, UPSC confirmed that the correct candidate who had cleared the exam was a gynecologist, Akansha Singh from Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh.
