Iran criticized the United States for sinking its warship Iris Dina in the Indian Ocean on Wednesday. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi claimed that the ship, a “guest of the Indian Navy,” was bombed without warning by the United States.

A US submarine sank the Iranian ship in the Indian Ocean on Wednesday.

He also issued a warning to the United States, saying it would “deeply regret” taking action against the Iranian warship.

“The frigate Dina, a guest of the Indian Navy with approximately 130 sailors on board, was bombed in international waters without warning… Mark my words: The United States will deeply regret the precedent it has set,” the Iranian minister wrote on the X website, in the country’s first reaction to the sinking of the ship.

The sinking of the Iris Dina exacerbated an ongoing conflict between the United States and Iran that also sparked a storm in other Middle Eastern countries. This is believed to be the first torpedoed shipwreck by the United States in the Indian Ocean since World War II.

At least 87 people were killed when an Iranian ship participating in an international fleet review was torpedoed by a US submarine in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh state just a few days ago.
