In a statement, Costa Rica’s Department of Judicial Investigation confirmed that Van Dijk’s girlfriend was not seriously injured.
The tragic incident took place on Saturday at approximately 10:50 AM in the popular tourist destination of Puerto Viejo de Talamanca. The area is generally considered safe and the incident caused significant distress in the community.

Arroyo reported that the intruders tied her hands and feet, assaulted her, and eventually killed her boyfriend.
The entire ordeal lasted only a few minutes before the thieves made off with several of their possessions, including a 2013 Hyundai Elantra.
Dyke’s body was discovered under his bed, with a bloody knife next to him.

Peter Van Dyke, his brother, told the San Francisco Chronicle: My brother was a very giving person, a person who would help anyone. Kurt would never hurt anyone and was always there when you needed him. Everyone he met knew about him.
