Trump announced Blanche’s new role on April 2, 2026, while effectively ousting Bondi. The Republican president called Blanche “extremely talented and respected,” while also thanking Bondi for her service as adjutant general.
“Pam Bondi is a great American patriot and loyal friend who has served faithfully as my Attorney General over the past year,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Pam has done a tremendous job overseeing a massive crime crackdown across our country, where homicides have fallen to their lowest level since 1900. We love Pam, and she will be moving on to an important and much-needed new job in the private sector, to be announced sometime in the near future, and our Deputy Attorney General, and the talented and highly respected legal mind, Todd Blanche, will take over as Acting Attorney General.”
In response, Blanche wrote a statement on X.com, crediting Bondi with leading “this ministry with strength and faith, and I am grateful for her leadership and friendship.”
“Thank you to President Trump for his trust and the opportunity to serve as acting Attorney General,” Blanche continued. “We will continue to support blue, law enforcement, and do everything we can to keep America safe.”

Todd Blanes is a former prosecutor
Blanche is known for his work as a lawyer and former prosecutor. A graduate of American University and Brooklyn Law School, the Colorado native worked for the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Violent Crimes Division of the Southern District of New York for eight years. He subsequently became a partner at Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft before representing Trump during his 2024 criminal trial.
