According to the BBC, Amanda Nguyen Nguyen is an American bionavigator, civil rights activist and founder of Rise, an NGO dedicated to protecting the rights of survivors of sexual assault. The daughter of Vietnamese refugees, she grew up in California with a passion for science and a childhood ambition to become an astronaut. After graduating from Harvard, she gained research experience at institutions including the Harvard Center for Astrophysics, NASA, and the International Institute of Astronautical Sciences, steadily building a career in space science.
But that path changed dramatically during her final year at Harvard when she survived rape.
