Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was arrested Thursday morning after years of controversy surrounding his relationship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
The claims against the former prince have long been in the public domain. However, the recently released Epstein files revealed that several UK police forces are investigating various issues linked to Mountbatten-Windsor.
He has always denied any wrongdoing.
Thames Valley Police
On Thursday morning, the force released a statement saying it had “arrested a man in his 60s from Norfolk on suspicion of misconduct in public office” and was “searching addresses in Berkshire and Norfolk”.
The force previously said it was reviewing allegations that Epstein smuggled a woman to the UK to have sex with Andrew and that he shared sensitive information with the disgraced financier while serving as the UK’s trade ambassador.
Norfolk Police
Norfolk Police confirmed that they were reviewing the documents brought to their attention and following Mountbatten-Windsor’s arrest, they were supporting the Thames Valley Police investigation.
There are several references in the Epstein files of the Sandringham estate, which falls under the Force’s jurisdiction. Mountbatten-Windsor hosted Epstein and his colleague Ghislaine Maxwell there several times.
Surrey Police
On Wednesday, Surrey police are urging the public to contact people with information about claims the parties described in the Epstein files allegedly took place in Virginia Water in the mid-1990s. Maxwell and another British citizen are alleged to have attended at least one.
Metropolitan Police
On Tuesday, an unnamed former senior Met protection officer told LBC radio that members of Mountbatten-Windsor’s protection team traveled with him to the Virgin Islands island of Little St James and “may have turned a blind eye”, which Epstein bought at least twice, including Epstein’s private jet in 1998.
On Wednesday, the Met announced it was conducting “preliminary inquiries into these specific allegations”, but added that it had “not identified any wrongdoing”.
Essex, West Midlands and Bedfordshire Police
After Gordon Brown raised the issue of Epstein’s “Lolita Express” and passing through UK airports, several police forces said they were investigating claims that Epstein used dozens of private planes to traffic women. A BBC investigation found that between the early 1990s and 2018, 87 flights linked to Epstein arrived or departed from UK airports.
Essex Police said on Tuesday it was evaluating claims that Stansted Airport was used for such flights, after Brown claimed the documents showed how Epstein was able to use Stansted to “fly in girls from Latvia, Lithuania and Russia”.
West Midlands Police said they would assess information about private planes that flew through Birmingham Airport between the early 1990s and 2018, while Bedfordshire Police are understood to be assessing Epstein’s use of Luton Airport.
Police Scotland
On Wednesday night, Police Scotland appealed for information about Epstein’s use of Edinburgh Airport.
Wiltshire Police
Force said it was reviewing its records and “at this stage we cannot be certain that there are no allegations.” It said it supported the Met with its investigation.
