A 26-year-old Indian tourist died after he suddenly fell at a Phuket cafe on Kamala Beach. In mysterious circumstances, three others fainted one after another in the same café “for no apparent reason.”
The accident happened on May 9 and now the Indian Embassy has confirmed the death. The embassy said: “Embassy officials are in contact with the family of the deceased to provide all support in this hour of grief. We remain in contact with the relevant Thai authorities who are looking into the incident, and are also monitoring the health status of others.”According to the Bangkok Post, five Indians, Kushagra Agarwal, Rahul Agrawal, and another person with the same name Rahul Agarwal, Aman Agarwal, and Aryan Verma, arrived at the café together at around 11 p.m.
At around 1.54am, four members of the group reportedly lost consciousness one after the other for no apparent reason. Cafe staff immediately called emergency services and the men were taken to hospital. Aryan Verma did not show any symptoms.
Patong Hospital later reported that two of the men were in a coma and were taken to Vashira Phuket Hospital for further treatment. They were Kushagra Agarwal and one of the two men was called Rahul Agrawal.
At around 2pm on Saturday, police were informed about Kushagra Agarwal’s death. The remaining three patients were reported to be in stable condition.Police visited both hospitals and found the four men unconscious and unable to give statements.Some local residents have speculated that illegal substances or illicit alcohol may be involved, but investigators have not released any official findings or conclusions, Thaeger reported.
