The Brooklyn Bridge briefly caught fire during the July 4th fireworks display
The Brooklyn Bridge briefly caught fire on Saturday night, as fireworks were launched from the bridge during Macy’s Fourth of July parade over New York City’s East River.Videos circulated on social media showed flames and thick smoke rising from parts of the bridge while fireworks continued to go off overhead.
It appears that at least three points on the bridge caught fire during the parade.
The fire burned within about a minute, according to a New York Post reporter.Mohamed Shaaban, 31, from Egypt, who witnessed the incident, said: “It started off as a small fire and grew in size. There was a lot of black smoke.”
Khawla added: “There were four at the same time. Some additional fireworks exploded due to the fire.”It was not immediately clear whether the bridge had suffered any damage.
According to the city’s fire department, two fire engines were sent to the scene of the fire. Officials said such fires are not unexpected during fireworks displays, which is why spectators stay a safe distance.Americans across the United States celebrated Independence Day with fireworks displays, parades, concerts, and community events in celebration of the 250th anniversary of the country’s founding. However, severe weather and record temperatures have forced several cities to postpone, cancel or modify celebrations while Trump is scheduled to deliver a speech around midnight (local time).
