A report by independent journalist Ashley Banfield claims that authorities seized Annie Guthrie’s car in connection with Nancy Guthrie’s kidnapping. Banfield, the former News Nation host, also reported that Anne’s husband, Tommaso Cioni, may be a suspect.

(X/@JLRINVESTIGATES)Now, authorities have provided an update on Today show host, Savannah Guthrie’s, sister and her husband. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department released a statement saying “We have not identified any suspects or persons of interest in this case. Detectives are continuing to speak with anyone who may have had contact with Ms. Guthrie. We are also awaiting additional forensic results.”
They made it clear that Cione was not a person of interest in the investigation, but that authorities were likely contacted because he may have had contact with Nancy.
Annie was reportedly the last person to see Nancy on Saturday night when the two had dinner together. He is said to live near Nancy’s place. However, it is not known if Sioni was there. He was reported missing Sunday after regularly missing church services.

Annie and Sioni tied the knot in 2006. The Daily Mail reported they have a child together. Annie Guthrie expressed her thoughts about Cioni in 2013, saying “My husband Tommaso Cioni is my greatest teacher. He’s a great illustrator; he writes poetry with his lifestyle… I was trained as a reader. My family was book-centered. In junior high I was always hiding in the library. At lunch I don’t think I ever had to decide to write other kids to avoid reading other kids’ writing. My Mother always kept our diaries.”
While the search for Nancy Guthrie continues, authorities also provided an update on Annie’s vehicle.
Was Annie Guthrie’s car impounded? The Pima County Sheriff’s Department said, “We’re not confirming the car was impounded, we’re not sure where that reporter is getting that information,” referring to Banfield’s report, according to TMZ.
The publication also sent a purported ransom note demanding money for Nancy’s release. The sheriff’s department is now working with the FBI to verify its authenticity. Authorities believe Nancy was abducted in the middle of the night. Investigators believe time is of the essence in this case because Nancy is 84 and in poor health without taking her daily medication.
