He wanted to visit his sister: Florida man confesses after crashing into Daytona airport while trying to steal a plane

A Florida man who crashed his car into an airport gate and tried to board several planes told federal authorities that he wanted to steal a plane to visit his sister, The Independent reported.

Brian J. Parker, 58, was arrested Wednesday at Daytona Beach International Airport after driving his Ford Mustang through a secure, federally regulated gate. Authorities said he was extremely intoxicated on “all kinds of drugs” during the incident.According to federal investigators, Parker later told officers that he was trying to get on the plane so he could see his sister. This allegation was made during interrogation after his arrest and forms part of the case against him.

The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office said Parker breached airport security shortly after arriving at the facility. After crashing into the gate, he tried to reach several planes on the runway. Law enforcement officials intervened before he could reach or board any aircraft.Body camera footage released by authorities shows Parker admitting that he had consumed a large amount of alcohol and drugs prior to the crash.

Officers described him as disoriented and unstable when they took him into custody.Investigators said the breach raised serious security concerns, as the gate Parker passed through is part of a restricted area at the airport. Federal agencies have since joined the investigation, given the nature of the incident and the potential threat to aviation safety.Parker was charged with multiple crimes, including trespassing in an airport secure area and criminal mischief. Additional federal charges may follow as the investigation continues.Officials said no injuries were reported during the incident, and airport operations were not significantly disrupted.Authorities did not provide further details about Parker’s background or his relationship with his sister.
