US Opens Applications for Fulbright Student Program 2027 in UAE: Eligibility, Benefits and How to Apply

The U.S. Embassy has announced details of the prestigious 2027 Fulbright Foreign Student Program and has invited students from across the UAE to submit their applications. Eligible candidates, including students and professionals, can apply to the next edition of the program, and stand a chance at scholarships at universities across the United States.

What is the Fulbright Program?

The program, titled the Fulbright Foreign Student Program, is a leading international academic exchange initiative sponsored by the United States government. It works in partnership with more than 160 countries around the world, providing opportunities to study, conduct research and contribute to solving complex global challenges, according to organizers. Participants, often described as the “best and brightest” from their home communities, are offered to study or conduct research in the United States for one or more years at American universities or other accredited educational institutions.

What does the program cover?

The program provides funding for tuition and other required fees along with a monthly stipend to cover reasonable living costs, and a limited health coverage plan for the duration of the program.

Who can apply?

According to the official website, participants are selected through an open competition based on merit, in which variables such as leadership potential, academic excellence, and the ability to adapt to life in the United States are taken into consideration.

Applicants must be citizens or permanent residents and hold a passport with UAE family book and must be resident in the UAE throughout the process from application to placement. They must have a strong academic background with a US equivalent bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. They must also be proficient in English or able to attend a Long Term English (LTE) program prior to the start of the academic program.

Eligible fields of study

Applicants in fields of study including humanities, social sciences, science, technology and engineering are invited along with non-clinical programs such as public health and nursing. Graduates of clinical studies such as medicine and nursing are not allowed.

Documents required for submission

The following documents are required when applying:

  • Original academic texts and their certified translation
  • TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo scores (if applicable)
  • CV stating all education and previous work experience
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • The personal statement is up to 600 words long
  • Statement of the aim of the study or research
  • Emirates ID card or passport with family book
  • Proof of degree completion or a copy of the diploma

How to apply?

Applications for the program are open until June 1, 2026 and must be submitted online. Shortlisted candidates must be available for interviews in Dubai or Abu Dhabi during July 2026.
