UAE Travel Alert: Etihad Airways announces flight schedule for March 10-12, check destinations

The war between Iran, the United States and Israel left thousands of passengers stranded across the UAE due to airspace closures, flight cancellations and flight diversions. While the UAE authorities were praised for their assistance to tourists, providing hotel and food vouchers along with transportation, many were vying to return home on the next possible trip.

As geopolitical tensions continue to escalate, a limited number of flights have resumed to help transport stranded passengers safely home. Many airlines in the Gulf and those linked to the region with its air network have gradually begun to schedule their flights. Etihad Airways, one of the major airlines in the Gulf region, has released its latest schedule of limited operational flights to key destinations from Abu Dhabi.

The airline has listed its flights on March 10, 11 and 12, allowing passengers with existing reservations to be accommodated as soon as possible.

Union Airlines issue guidance to passengers

The airline advised travelers not to go to the airport unless they have a confirmed reservation or have been contacted directly by Etihad Airways. All flights will be operated only after procedural safety and security checks.

While passengers with existing reservations will be accommodated on priority, others can purchase tickets available on etihad.com, the airline’s website said. Here are some points to note:

  • Check your flight status on etihad.com before travelling.
  • Make sure your contact details in your booking are up to date.
  • Tickets issued on or before 28 February 2026, with travel dates up to 21 March, can be rebooked free of charge on flights operated by Etihad Airways until 15 May 2026.
  • Refunds for flights through March 21 can be requested via etihad.com/en/help/refund-form or through your travel agent.

From March 6 to 19, the airlines will schedule flights to destinations including Ahmedabad, Amsterdam, Athens, Bangkok, Beijing, Bengaluru, Boston, Cairo, Delhi, Dubai, Jeddah, Karachi, London (Heathrow), Manila, Melbourne, Mumbai, New York (JFK), Paris, Riyadh, Sydney, Tokyo and more. In addition, the airlines added that all services are subject to operational approvals and can be modified depending on airspace conditions. Passengers are advised to check the latest timetables online for specific days of operation.

Gulf airlines resume operations

Gulf airlines have resumed operations to major destinations for a brief and gradual period. Along with Etihad Airways, Qatar Airways is also assisting in the return of passengers to their home bases. On March 10, the Indian Embassy in Qatar revealed that one thousand Indians stranded in Doha had departed on Qatar Airways over the past three days, helping to ensure the safe return of those who were stuck in the country on transit flights or short-term visits.

Indian Airlines begins operations

Major Indian airlines, including Air India, Air India Express, IndiGo, SpiceJet and Acasa, have resumed operations in the Middle East. As of March 9, these airlines have planned 50 domestic flights from the region, while constantly monitoring conditions in West Asia. Air India operated 32 special flights from India to the UAE on March 9, along with 10 additional flights from Jeddah and Muscat. In addition, Air India Express operated 14 more flights to and from Muscat. IndiGo has resumed operations on a limited schedule including 17 departures to and from Middle Eastern cities. The company also offered free cancellation waivers to its customers in the Middle East and Istanbul, Turkey. On 9 March, the airline made its first flight to Manchester since the opening of airspace following the start of the Middle East War. However, the flight returned to its starting point in Delhi following last-minute airspace restrictions linked to developments in the situation in the Middle East, the airline said on Sunday. Such disruptions highlight how global aviation is closely linked to geopolitical stability. The Middle East is one of the most important air travel corridors and any security threats in the region could disrupt passenger travel across Asia, Europe and Africa.
