UAE sends nationwide alert as air defenses respond; Authorities say missile threats remain outside the country's borders

Authorities say missile threats remain outside the UAE’s borders.

The United Arab Emirates activated its air defense systems early Sunday after new missile and drone threats were detected, triggering nationwide precautionary alerts.Authorities later confirmed that all identified threats remained outside the country’s borders, and assured residents that the security situation was stable, Khaleej Times reported. The UAE Ministry of Defense said air defense systems intercepted missile and drone threats in the early hours of Sunday, with loud noises being heard in parts of the country linked to ongoing interceptions. In a general alert, the Ministry asked residents to remain calm, follow official safety instructions, and avoid approaching, touching or photographing any debris that may have fallen during interception operations.

People who spot suspected fragments have been asked to report them immediately by calling 999.

NCEMA: The situation remains stable

The National Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management Authority later clarified that the missile threats that were detected on Sunday morning were outside the UAE’s territory. The authority said in a statement that the country’s national systems remain at the highest level of preparedness and are continuously monitoring the regional security situation.

The authority added that precautionary alerts are issued proactively even when the likelihood of any direct impact is low, urging the public to rely only on official channels for verified updates.A nationwide follow-up mobile alert thanked residents for their cooperation during the emergency response and informed them that normal activities could resume.

The first real emergency alert in more than two months

Sunday’s warning represents the first actual UAE-wide emergency alert since May 4, when air defense systems were also activated in response to air threats. The authorities indicated that the alert sent on June 26 was due to a technical malfunction and was not related to any security incident.

Regional tensions extend across the Gulf

This security alert came amid escalating tensions in the Gulf, where Qatar and Bahrain also activated air defense systems and sounded air raid sirens after reports of missile and drone activity. The latest developments come in the wake of the escalation of the confrontation between the United States and Iran.

According to reports, the United States carried out another round of strikes after the Iranian Revolutionary Guard attacked a container ship crossing the Strait of Hormuz.Meanwhile, Iran said it closed the strategic waterway after firing what it described as a warning shot at a ship that was traveling on an unauthorized route. She warned that any retaliation would lead to a “severe response.”US Central Command identified the damaged ship as M/V GFS Galaxy, a Cyprus-flagged container ship, saying it had sustained significant damage to the engine room and a civilian crew member was reported missing. The authority confirmed that the situation is still under control, and said that the relevant agencies continue to monitor developments around the clock and will issue further updates if necessary.Officials advised residents not to circulate unconfirmed information and to follow announcements issued through official government channels.
