'We fund outrage about ourselves': Redditor reacts to YouTuber Tyler Oliveira's video against H-1B

YouTuber Tyler Oliveira’s most recent video was about alleged H-1B abuse in Texas.

After a 1.5-hour video of American YouTuber Tyler Oliveira on H-1Bs in Texas went viral, the Redditor reacted to the hate that techies get while paying all taxes and being law-abiding residents.

Oliveira, known for targeting Indians, interviewed Indians in Texas, asked them whether they loved their home country or the United States, and then concluded that the majority of them were doing something illegal. As the issue has become a hot-button issue for journalists and content creators in Texas, Oliveira spoke to those who have spoken out against “H-1B visa abuse.” He described this as illegal to come to the United States on a student visa and then switch to an H-1B visa, which is a work visa, even though this is a legal and well-established path. Many Americans reacted with rebellion to the video as they concluded that they were only out of work because of the H-1B visa program. One Redditor noted that H-1B corporations are not only funding the American economy, but also the outrage about themselves.

The Redditor noted that H-1Bs are also funding the outrage against them in the United States.

The Redditor noted that H-1Bs are also funding the outrage against them in the United States.

“1% of population pays 6% of all federal income taxes. $250-300 billion annually. $11 million. American jobs created indirectly. Zero use of welfare. Social Security contributions from day one.”

It will likely never be collected. The video was shot on an iPhone. Uploaded to YouTube. Monetize through Google. These three elements were largely created by the people the video is about. We don’t just finance the economy. “We are funding anger at ourselves,” the Redditor wrote.

Reactions to this logic were expected. Hate and Redditor’s demand to return to India. Some pointed out that H-1B visa holders did not invent Google, as the Redditor implied — H-1B visas are humble. One wrote: “If an American did the same job, he would pay the same taxes and maybe more because wages would be higher.” Another wrote: “H1b are just desperate people willing to accept abuse for a little money. They rarely have any real talent or abilities.”
