The Interim Government of Bangladesh has announced a financial assistance of Tk 25 lakh to the family of Dipu Chandra Das, who was killed in a mob attack in Mymensingh last year, for the construction of a house.

Dipu Das was beaten to death on December 18 in Square Masterbari area of Bhaluka Upazila of Mymensingh District, Bangladesh.
According to reports at the time, a mob accused him of making insulting remarks. He was assaulted, tied to a tree and set on fire in an incident widely described as communal violence.

The interim government has said that Dipu Das is the sole earning member of his family and has assured long-term financial assistance for their rehabilitation. As part of this assistance, Tk 25 lakh has been allocated for the construction of a permanent house to ensure the future security of the family.
Allocation of funds for construction of housesThis support will be implemented under the supervision of UNO of Tarakanda Upazila of Mymensingh district.
Under the scheme, 25 lakhs will be allocated for construction of a house based on the needs of the family to be implemented by the National Housing Authority.
Besides, cash financial assistance will be provided. Dipu Das’s father and wife will be given Rs 10 lakh by the government and an FDR of Rs 5 lakh will be made to ensure the future security of his child.
Dipu Das’s death is a disgrace to the entire nation: Education Adviser DrEducation advisor on Tuesday. CR Abrar said the killing of Dipu Chandra Das was a brutal crime which had no justification and no place in society.
He said the government’s efforts to support the family could not compensate for the loss of a life, but assured that the state would ensure justice.
He added that the killings fueled by communal hysteria are a disgrace to the entire nation and only justice can help the country overcome this shame.
Reiterating the state’s position, he said Bangladesh respects the peaceful right of people of all religions, ethnicities and communities to express their views, as long as it is done with respect for others. Even in moments of disagreement, he insists that no one has the right to take the law into his own hands.
So far, 12 people directly involved in the incident have been arrested, and investigations are ongoing. The Education Advisor said that those responsible will be brought to justice through due legal process.
