Twitch announced major changes to make TwitchCon safer after a serious incident last year. Popular streamer Emiru was assaulted at the event when a fan grabbed her without permission.
This caused a lot of concern about safety at Twitch’s largest live streaming conference. The company says it wants all creators and visitors to feel safe while meeting fans, streaming, or enjoying activities.New rules and upgrades will start at TwitchCon Rotterdam. TwitchCon adds safety measures after Emiru incident
One of the major changes is the new lanyard system. Visitors who don’t want to appear on camera can wear a special lanyard to show this. Streamers and fans should not photograph, interview or approach anyone wearing it. Breaking this rule could result in suspension from TwitchCon or other penalties, Twitch said.
The meet and greet will also be safer. People will need to schedule appointments instead of connecting with their favorite creators.
Event planning will be improved to better manage crowds. More staff from Twitch will be on hand to handle situations should they arise. These changes were made based on what was learned from the attack on Emiru. The goal is to avoid such situations and make sure everyone has a good time. Twitch emphasized respecting personal space and following rules and regulations to improve TwitchCon in the future.Although the changes are new, many hope they will make creators feel comfortable attending the 2026 event. Twitch plans to continue updating safety measures based on feedback from fans and streamers.Although past events have caused concern, Twitch is showing that it is listening and taking action. With the addition of comment bars, improved meet-and-greet systems, and stronger security, TwitchCon aims to be a safe and exciting experience where everyone can enjoy the community without fear.
