Tumblr was down for thousands of users on Friday, as people took to social media to air their grievances. At the time of writing, Downdetector has more than 6,000 people experiencing the problem.

Downdetector noted that people are experiencing problems since 5:55 PM EST.
According to the outage map, the problem was experienced in places like Washington, New York and Boston, with the East Coast appearing to be hit harder than the West. Seattle and Los Angeles, the opposite side of the problem.
Reaction to Tumblr being downTumblr is a microblogging and social media platform used for sharing various multimedia content such as text, photos, GIFs, videos and music. It is reported to have 135 to 142 million monthly active users by early 2026.
Many of them expressed their displeasure over not being able to access Tumblr.

In X, the complaint was filed. “First time I’ve been on Tumblr in a while and it’s down,” one person said. Another added, “Tumblr dashboard is back but there are zero posts except for the ad asking me to get the app.”
“Tumblr is down and I feel like I’m locked out of my house and I have to wait for my mom to come and let me in,” one person commented, giving a glimpse of how dependent users are on accessing the app. Another person who seems to be a frequent user asked “Tumblr has closed, what should I do now?”.
One person who seems to visit the site for their dose of fanfiction wrote “Tumblr is down and I can’t read fanfiction before I go to sleep.. life is not worth living and I’ll start a life at sea as a whaling ship captain if interested xx dam me.”
The cause of the outage is not yet known. Tumblr has yet to issue a statement.
