Dan Hicks apologizes on air after NBC showed footage of Tiger Woods’ 2021 crash during coverage/NBC
Tiger Woods has found himself at the center of an unexpected radio controversy after NBC issued an on-air apology for mistakenly showing footage from a previous incident while reporting on his latest arrest following a car crash in Florida. The error, which aired during live golf coverage, quickly caught viewers’ attention, prompting the network to make a public correction as details of Woods’ latest crash and charges continue to emerge.
On-air mix-up and NBC apology
The error occurred during NBC’s coverage of a PGA Tour event in Texas, when the studio’s analysis of Woods’ recent crash was accompanied by footage from his most serious crash of 2021 in California.

Viewers were quick to spot the discrepancy, with some calling out the network in real time.
“Well done NBC Sports. The video you just showed of Tiger Woods’ vehicle was not from his accident yesterday. Come on, do better,” one user wrote onThe network later addressed the error on air, with host Dan Hicks issuing a correction during coverage later that day.“We want to use this time to make the correction,” Hicks said.
“Before we went on the air today with our regular coverage of the PGA Tour…our studio presentation inadvertently showed the incorrect image of Tiger Woods’ car accident.”Explaining the confusion, he added: “It was another previous car accident. It wasn’t the right one. The last one, it was yesterday, so, we apologize for that. I just wanted to correct that before we go any further.”
What happened in Woods’ last crash
The apology came as more details emerged about Woods’ recent accident, which occurred on Friday (March 27) on Jupiter Island, Florida.According to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, Woods was driving “at a high rate of speed” when he attempted to pass a truck. His car collided with a pressure washer trailer attached to the truck, causing the vehicle to roll over and slide “a pretty decent distance before he came to a stop.”Authorities said Woods exited the vehicle from the passenger side after the crash.

He was subsequently arrested and transported to the Martin County Jail, where he spent approximately eight hours in custody.
He was charged with two misdemeanors: DUI with property damage and refusal to submit to law enforcement testing.Sheriff John Bodensek told reporters that officers conducted multiple roadside assessments, explaining, “They ran several tests on him… He explained the injuries and surgeries he had and we took that into consideration, but they did some in-depth tests at the roadside.”Although alcohol did not appear to be a factor, “Mr. Woods administered a breathalyzer test with triple zeros” — the golfer refused to submit to a urinalysis test, resulting in an additional charge, Bodencic added. At the scene, the sheriff said Woods appeared “lethargic” and showed “signs of weakness.”
Trump responds and past events resurface
The incident also sparked reaction from Donald Trump, who has a personal connection to Woods through his relationship with Vanessa Trump.Speaking publicly, Trump said he felt “very bad” for the golfer, adding: “He’s had some difficulties. There was an accident, that’s all I know. A very close friend of mine. He’s an amazing person, an amazing guy. He’s an amazing person.”

The recent accident has also revived interest in Woods’ history of high-profile vehicle accidents. In 2021, he suffered serious leg injuries in a rollover accident in Los Angeles, and later said: “I’m lucky to be alive and to have a limb as well.” Earlier, in 2017, he was arrested for DUI after being found asleep at the wheel of his car, and later pleaded guilty to reckless driving and completed probation, community service and DUI. Likewise, his 2009 crash near his home in Florida sparked intense media scrutiny.
