The Texas Republican Party brought its elephant, Paige, to its convention last night.
A video of Phil watching the closing ceremony of the Texas Republican Party convention has gone viral for more than one reason. Democrats noted that the elephant, named Paige, urinated on the ground shortly after Gov. Greg Abbott’s speech.
They called it “the perfect metaphor for the Texas Republican Party.” On social media, Indian Americans noticed how the GOP always talks about India taking over the country and how they hate Indians who bring cows into their homes to heat their homes, but they ended up bringing an elephant to their convention.As Paige entered the hall, an announcer asked the audience to clear the aisles for a “larger-than-life surprise.” It wasn’t a surprise at all.
“TEXAS-SIZED LIVE WARNING: PLEASE ATTENTION – TODAY’S PROGRAM includes a larger-than-life surprise. Please remain aware of your surroundings, keep aisles clear, and follow directions from event staff. ‘You will all enjoy an unforgettable afternoon,’ reads a poster in the convention center.“They just drove an elephant through the Texas GOP convention, and it took a big piss near the press area,” New York Times reporter Lauren McGoey posted.
The Texas Democratic Party commented, “Governor Abbott concluded his speech at the Texas Republican Party convention with a live elephant. He then urinated on the floor as he exited the room. It’s a perfect metaphor for the Texas Republican Party.”
“Republicans were complaining about Hindus bringing cows into their homes while heating their homes. They brought an elephant to their convention and left them a beautiful pool to swim in,” an Indian-American businessman wrote on X.Paige is part of the East Texas Elephant Experience at Cut and Shoot, Texas, the New York Post reported. It is nine feet tall and weighs about 8,600 pounds, according to the company’s website. The East Texas Elephant Experience also provides educational programs across the United States and has participated in studies to “better help elephants in human care,” the website says.
