The US claims that Chinese company Moonshot AI

OpenAI and Anthropic were already working with the US government to test yet-to-be-released AI models

WASHINGTON: Chinese company Moonshot AI stole from Anthropic’s most advanced big language AI model, Fable, to help create its latest version of K3 and acquired advanced Nvidia AI chips, Michael Kratsios, the Trump administration’s chief technology officer, said Wednesday.

Kratsios said large-scale secret industrial distillation aimed at stealing American technology and undermining research is unacceptable.US Treasury Secretary Scott Besent said Wednesday in a separate post on X that he is considering adding Moonshot AI to a trade blacklist and imposing sanctions. The Trump administration’s accusations are likely to exacerbate tensions over technology issues between Beijing and Washington.Chinese Embassy spokesman in Washington, Liu Zhang, described Karatsios’s comments as “completely baseless,” adding that China respects intellectual property protection. “Relevant individuals in the United States should respect the facts, abandon bias, and stop slandering and discrediting China’s achievements in the development of the artificial intelligence industry,” he said.(This is a Reuters report)
