Ashley Brouillette, the ex-wife of ICE Officer David Brouillette, is speaking out now after an ICE officer shot and killed a Colombian man in Maine this week. Brouillette revealed that her ex-husband had serious mental health issues since childhood and that Ashley also suffered from his abuse.Ashlett said when David told her last year he was assigned to ICE, she thought he was having a mental health episode and didn’t believe him. She remained under that impression until last week when videos emerged of an ICE officer shooting a man in Maine.Ashley told the AP that after the video went viral, she spoke to her ex-husband via a Facebook audio call where he confessed to killing Duran Guerrero, the Colombian man.Ashley said David asked her to tell everyone he was a good person and not mention the abuse. “I asked him why he did that,” she said. “He said the shooting was justified. The man was trying to run him over with a car.”David and Ashley Brouillette were high school sweethearts who married in 2007. But the couple separated in 2009 because he became physically violent with her, which began after she became pregnant with their daughter.

After the divorce, David married his second ex-wife, whose name was not revealed because she feared revenge from David. Brouillette was initially rejected by military recruiters because of his mental health diagnosis, but recruiters encouraged him to stop taking his medications for a year and reapply.

According to U.S. military records, Brouillette enlisted as a chemical equipment repairman in the Maine Army National Guard, but then changed jobs to become a medical logistics specialist. He was in the Guard from November 2007 until January 2010, according to records provided by the Pentagon. In January 2010, he joined the regular army as a human intelligence collector. Brouillette was deployed to Afghanistan from May 2012 to February 2013 and eventually left the Army as a sergeant in December 2015.
