On Wednesday, Iran responded strongly to the statements of US President Donald Trump, a day before the resumption of nuclear talks between the two sides in Geneva. Two senior Iranian officials criticized Trump’s statements, describing them as misleading and based on false information.

At the same time, they said negotiations could still succeed if handled through “honorable diplomacy.”In his speech on Tuesday, Trump accused Iran of rebuilding its missile and nuclear capabilities. He claimed that Iran is developing missiles that could threaten Europe and possibly the United States. He added that Iran had been warned against resuming its nuclear weapons program, but it was continuing its efforts.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei accused Trump of spreading misleading information.

Writing on X, he said claims about Iranian nuclear activities, ballistic missiles and deaths during the recent unrest are “big lies.”

Separately, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf said that the United States must choose between diplomacy and confrontation. He said that Iran would join the talks if its dignity and mutual interests were respected. But he warned that any attack during the negotiations would have a strong response.

“If you choose the diplomacy table, which is diplomacy in which the dignity of the Iranian nation and mutual interests are respected, then we will also be at that table,” Qalibaf said, according to what was reported by the semi-official Student News Network. The United States and Iran are scheduled to meet on Thursday in Geneva in the third round of talks mediated by Oman.Trump has repeatedly threatened military action if negotiations fail. The United States has also deployed a large number of aircraft and warships to the Middle East. Iran said that US bases in the Middle East would be considered legitimate targets in such a case.
