‘Stay home or else’: CJNG’s alleged threat in Guadalajara and Jalisco residents sparks panic amid violence

Several states across Mexico have seen violence following reports that the Mexican military killed Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, alias “El Mencho,” leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), during an operation on Sunday.

Roads were blocked in multiple areas. Buses and buildings were set on fire. The most affected states include Jalisco, Michoacán, Colima, Guerrero, Aguascalientes, Guanajuato, Nayarit, Zacatecas and Tamaulipas.

There are also reports of chaos at Guadalajara International Airport, with unconfirmed claims circulating on social media claiming that gunmen stormed the facility. The authorities did not confirm these reports.

Amid the unrest, an alleged message from the cartel appeared online warning residents of Guadalajara and surrounding areas to stay indoors.

The alert states: “For residents of Guadalajara, Jalisco and surrounding areas, we recommend that you stay in your homes. From 2:00 PM onwards, we will confront anyone found on the streets. We will not care if he is innocent; that is why you are being warned.”

Puerto Vallarta International Airport issues an alert

Puerto Vallarta International Airport also issued an alert advising travelers to take precautions and check with airlines regarding flight status due to turbulence.

The airport advised, “Due to unexpected situations on roads near the airport, we recommend taking necessary precautions when planning your arrival. Additionally, we recommend checking with your airline about the status of your flight to avoid inconveniences.”

US Embassy in Mexico issues alert

The US Embassy in Mexico urged US citizens in Jalisco, Tamaulipas, Michoacán, Guerrero and Nuevo Leon to shelter in place.

“Due to ongoing security operations and associated roadblocks and criminal activity, US citizens in the aforementioned locations must shelter in place until further notice,” the warning read.
