The Eid al-Adha holiday and the mid-term break are expected to merge into an extended holiday period later this month. Schools are now adjusting revision timetables, exam preparation plans and communication strategies with parents to balance academics, family travel and student wellbeing.According to the UAE’s official holiday calendar for 2026, Arafat Day is expected to fall on Tuesday, May 26, followed by the Eid Al Adha holiday from May 27 to May 29, subject to official confirmation of the crescent sighting. When combined with weekends, many students and residents can enjoy up to six consecutive days off.Meanwhile, the UAE Ministry of Education has already confirmed a separate mid-term break for schools from May 25 to 29.
Since weekends fall directly before and after break, many students may actually take nine days off from classes.
Eid holiday in private schools in the Emirates
As final evaluations approach at many schools, administrators are carefully reorganizing academic schedules before students leave for the holiday break. Many private schools said they are increasing review sessions, sharing study materials ahead of time and making sure parents clearly understand deadlines and academic expectations after the break.
School leaders said maintaining consistency has become especially important after long periods of remote and hybrid learning during the school year. Teachers try to keep students from falling behind while recognizing the importance of giving families time together during holiday celebrations. Many schools are also using digital learning platforms to keep students connected to courses during break, although teachers stressed that the focus remains on balanced learning rather than overloading children with tasks.
Emirati families flock to spend the Eid holiday
The extended holiday period is expected to trigger a major travel rush across the UAE, with families planning overseas trips, staycations and visits to relatives. Long public holidays in the UAE usually lead to sharp increases in demand for flights and hotels, especially when school holidays coincide with public holidays.Parents also welcome the break timing as it comes before the final examination phase in many schools.
Education officials and school administrators believe the short break could help students return refreshed before end-of-year assessments begin in June and July.Meanwhile, teachers described the holiday as a necessary break after months of constant academic pressure and curriculum planning. Some schools said they communicated holiday schedules early so that parents could organize travel without any doubt.
Looking forward
The Eid Al Adha holiday is part of a broader trend of extended public holidays in the UAE calendar for 2026. The schedules approved by the government this year include several strategically aligned holidays that allow residents to maximize their annual leave and enjoy longer holidays. But for schools, the challenge is balancing holiday flexibility with academic continuity. Institutions are expected to continue to follow guidelines issued by educational authorities including the Knowledge and Human Development Authority and the UAE Ministry of Education before final schedules are confirmed to parents. While the official Eid dates still depend on the sighting of the moon, families across the Emirates are already preparing for what could become one of the busiest travel and holiday periods in 2026.
