Rhode Island may be the smallest state in the United States by area, but comparing it to some of the largest lakes in North America makes it seem even smaller. Forest lake
Lake of the Woods covers about 1,679 square miles, making it comfortably larger than the state of Rhode Island. The lake extends across northern Minnesota and into Canada, and is said to contain more than 14,500 islands. Experts say that this has more islands than any other lake in the world.
The lake is famous for fishing, especially fishing, and attracts visitors throughout the year. Wildlife around the coastline includes pelicans, herons, mallards and black bears. On calm days, parts of the lake can seem almost ocean-like due to the huge expanses of open water.

Lake Erie spans approximately 9,910 square miles and is bordered by several U.S. states, including Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and New York.
It’s a shallow Great Lake, which helps it warm faster than others.Experts point out that these warm waters make Erie the most biologically productive in the Great Lakes region. Millions of migratory birds travel through the area each year, while rare species continue to remain on the islands within the lake. Freshwater jellyfish and freshwater sponges have also reportedly been found in its waters, which surprised many visitors.
Lake Michigan

Lake Michigan covers about 22,300 square miles, making it roughly 15 times the size of Rhode Island. It is also the only great lake located entirely within the United States.Major cities such as Chicago and Milwaukee are located along its coast. The eastern shoreline has also gained a reputation for growing fruit because the lake moderates year-round temperatures.

Lake Superior is the world’s largest freshwater lake by surface area, spanning a massive 31,700 square miles. It borders Ontario, Minnesota, Michigan, and Wisconsin.The lake is deeper and colder than other Great Lakes, with some parts reaching more than 1,300 feet deep. Much of the surrounding coast remains wild and sparsely populated, which helps maintain habitat for moose, wolves, lynx, and forest caribou.They say that standing next to Lake Superior is more like facing the ocean than the lake. The horizon can seem endless, especially during severe weather. Its full size is difficult to comprehend until you see it in person.
