Redditor devastated after losing last chance at H-1B lottery, gets trolled for 'galling entitlement'

Redditor shares frustration after losing last chance in H-1B lottery, and gets trolled.

One Redditor shared the feelings of missing out on the last chance in the H-1B lottery, but was criticized by US-based commenters who mocked the “entitlement” of foreigners who believe they have the right to remain in the United States.

The results of the first pay-based lottery were announced over the weekends and were completed by April 1. Starting April 1, companies will submit petitions to selected candidates. The Redditor was devastated. He said co-workers were crying because this was the individual’s last chance to remain in the United States. “My H1B was not selected again this year. This was my last chance, and I’m honestly disappointed.

It still doesn’t seem real. I’ve been through a lot of ups and downs, but I’ve always worked hard and managed to make it this far. “For this reason, I always think of myself as a lucky person… but I don’t think so in this case.”

“I don’t think I’ve ever cried like that before. I didn’t even know I was someone who could cry like that. What made it even harder was seeing my co-workers so upset, even crying for me. It broke me, honestly.”

“I’ve lived here for a long time, and this feels like home. So, yeah, I feel lost now. But at the end of the day, this was a lottery. There was only so much I could control (I’ll be honest, it’s hard not to feel bitterness toward people who gamed the system. And I really hope they face some consequences.) I guess what I’m trying to say is that I’m not going to let this consume me and focus on what I can control. I’ve come this far, so I have to have faith that I’ll find a way forward again.”Many H-1B visa aspirants shared similar stories that they now have to leave the US, as they were not selected in the FY 2027 lottery. USCIS has announced the conclusion of the lottery but is yet to reveal how many registrations they have received, how many candidates have been selected, etc.

“My sympathy goes out to all Americans”

The Reddit post became a laughingstock on X as right-wing handles mocked people’s “H-1B loss.” “My sympathies are absolutely with the Americans who have lost or been denied their jobs because these foreigners were given work visas in my country. They are guests here and have no right to immigrate and have no reason to expect that they would be able to do so if they came here on a student visa or any other ‘temporary visa’. Nothing. The entitlement in this post is disgusting.”

“Read and cry,” one person wrote, sharing the Reddit post.
