A major fundraising campaign in Dubai raised more than AED 1.14 billion to support the Edge of Life campaign, a global humanitarian initiative launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, during the month of Ramadan.

The campaign aims to raise at least one billion UAE dirhams to help save five million children from hunger around the world, by bringing together international charitable organizations, business leaders and individual donors.The total amount raised includes more than 1.049 billion dirhams in pledges and contributions, in addition to 91.405 million dirhams obtained through the Noble Charitable Number Auction held in Dubai. The auction and pledges were announced during a suhoor event organized by Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI) at the Armani Hotel Dubai in Burj Khalifa.

The auction of special numbers raised more than 91 million dirhams

The charity auction featured 29 exclusive license plate numbers and premium mobile phone numbers, attracting strong bids from participants. The auction alone raised AED 91,405 million, with proceeds going towards the “Edge of Life” campaign.Special numbers include:

  • 9 numbers for Roads and Transport Authority vehicles
  • 10 special numbers from e&Emirates
  • 10 special numbers from du

The distribution of auction proceeds showed the following:

  • 81.5 million dirhams were collected from Roads and Transport Authority plate numbers
  • 1.905 million dirhams were collected from electronic and premium mobile phone numbers
  • 8 million dirhams were collected from premium mobile phone numbers from du

The highest winning bid was AED 37 million for plate number DD 6, followed by several other high-value plates:

  • D 16 – 9 million UAE dirhams
  • DD 99 – AED 8.9 million
  • D 25 – 6.4 million dirhams
  • D 30 – AED 6.1 million
  • 100 D – 5.1 million dirhams
  • DD 999 – AED 5.1 million
  • 7000 DZD – 2 million UAE dirhams
  • D 22222 – 1.9 million UAE dirhams

Premium mobile phone numbers also attracted notable offers. As for electronic and Emirati numbers, the total bidding value reached 1,905 million dirhams, with the highest price reaching 500,000 dirhams for number 0500000012, followed by 260,000 dirhams for number 0500000013, 240,000 dirhams for number 0500000023, and 200,000. AED for number 0500000024.

Other numbers ranged between 45,000 dirhams and 160,000 dirhams.As for Du numbers, the auction raised 8 million dirhams, led by 4.5 million dirhams for the number 0580000000. Other winning bids included 700,000 dirhams for the number 0580000008, and 550,000 dirhams for the number 0580000001, and multiple numbers were sold ranging from 250,000 dirhams. The Suhoor celebration brought together philanthropic and business leaders, and was organized by MBRGI in cooperation with Emirates Auction, and with the support of the Roads and Transport Authority, e&Emirates, and du.
