The option of renewing residency for 3 months has been introduced for domestic workers in Saudi Arabia.
Saudi Arabia has launched a more flexible residency permit renewal system for domestic workers, allowing employers to issue or renew residency for short periods of up to three months through the Absher platform. The new service, which was provided by the Ministry of Interior through the General Directorate of Passports (Passports) in partnership with the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development and the Musaned platform, replaces the previous system, which was limited to one or two years for renewal.Employers can now choose permit periods of 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21 or 24 months, giving them greater flexibility to suit their hiring needs. The ministry said that residency fees will now only be charged for the specified validity period, allowing employers to make payments quarterly when choosing permits issued or renewed in quarterly increments.According to the ministry, the changes are designed to ease employers’ financial obligations while offering more flexible accommodation options for domestic workers. The initiative also forms part of Saudi Arabia’s broader efforts to modernize government services, expand digital solutions, and improve the efficiency of residency procedures.
