A North Smithfield father disarmed the gunman after he killed a young girl and wounded four others at Dennis M. Lynch Arena in Pawtucket.

The mayor’s office in Pawtucket announced Monday that Dennis M. A shooting between two co-op teams during a high school hockey game at the Lynch Arena ice rink initially left one young woman dead and four others injured.

Answer Smithfield hero father save the dayAccording to Branden Mello of the Pawtucket Times, a North Smithfield father is being hailed a hero after he grabbed the gunman’s firearm after he disarmed him.

Mello X wrote that witnesses on the stand told him that the father walked toward the shooter and was able to wrestle the first gun from his hand. However, witnesses said the gunman had a second weapon.

The shooting has been characterized as an incident of domestic violenceAccording to Fox News’ Alexis McAdams, the shooting was a murder-suicide that started as domestic violence.

According to sources, McAdams wrote, the gunman killed his wife and two children before shooting himself. The third child is currently hospitalized.

Police investigation is ongoingIn an initial statement, St. Raphael Academy said there was an active shooter and that students in attendance were safe at multiple locations.

Pawtucket Police and Rhode Island State Police set up a perimeter around the arena after the shooting.

Videos circulating online show spectators jostling in the back of seats and scrambling outside as gunshots are heard. Authorities are reviewing surveillance footage and speaking with witnesses to determine the sequence of events and whether the suspect acted alone.

Mello also reported that Pawtucket police are taking witnesses to the Pawtucket police station via Ripta bus to question them about their accounts of the shooting.

Fox News 11 reported that the shooter was pronounced dead, and the mayor’s office announced that police were not looking for anyone.
