A worker at an Amazon warehouse in Oregon died on April 6.
An Amazon worker reportedly collapsed and died on the floor of an Oregon warehouse while colleagues were told not to look and return to work, the Western Age reported and claimed the company tried to cover up the April 6 incident.
The outlet also obtained a statement from Amazon in which they expressed their deep sadness over the death of a member on the job.The report cited a 911 call in which an employee said the person who fell to the ground was bleeding from the head. She said that while the man had been dead for more than an hour, business at the facility was proceeding as usual, with workers instructed to continue bringing in, picking and loading items, and management deliberating over what to do next.
All of the workers who spoke to Western Edge requested anonymity and claimed that even a week later, they did not know how the man, believed to be 46 years old from office records, died.
A woman ran to help the man when he collapsed and began performing CPR. Another employee asked her supervisor if she should perform CPR. The supervisor reportedly said: “It must be the management or safety team. Please get back to work.” “Just turn around and don’t look.
“Let’s get back to work,” the supervisor added. The man who died on April 6 was a “carrier,” a job in which one must gather stacks of yellow plastic boxes as tall as a person, load them onto a cart and move them up and down the long aisles of the warehouse to hand them to other workers who then fill them with goods transported by trucks. The website quoted a company spokesperson: “We are deeply saddened by the passing of one of our team members, and our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with their loved ones during this difficult time. We have been in contact with his family and provided resources to support them.” “For employees at our PDX9 facility, we have provided on-site grief counselors and additional support.”
