An Indian man living in the US spoke about why many people who move abroad with short-term plans to return to their home country often end up settling there permanently, citing job prospects, lifestyle changes and general living environment as key factors.Gaurav Makhluga shared his thoughts in a video posted on Instagram, reflecting on how his outlook changed after moving to the US.He said that before he left India, he thought he would spend a few years earning money in America before returning to his homeland to settle down.However, he said his post-transition experience was different from what he expected.
In the video, Makhluga highlighted the peaceful atmosphere in his neighborhood, showing the quiet streets and open green spaces during the evening.
He said the peaceful environment made him understand why so many people struggle to leave after building a life in the country.“Before I came to America, my plan was simply to spend a few years here, then come back home and enjoy life,” he said. “But look what I found here.”He added that although nothing can replace one’s homeland, the quality of life in the United States often influences people’s decisions to stay there.Makhluga also said that professional opportunities and modern infrastructure were key factors behind this choice, arguing that they provide a level of comfort that many migrants appreciate after settling abroad.Although he praised life in the United States, he acknowledged the emotional connection between people and their country of origin, saying there is no substitute for one’s homeland.
