The parents of one of the two men accused of an attempted bombing near New York City’s Gracie Mansion are naturalized American citizens who immigrated from Afghanistan and own a suburban Pennsylvania home worth about $2.25 million.19-year-old Ibrahim Kiyomi and 18-year-old Amir Balat, both from Pennsylvania, were arrested last week after throwing explosive devices during a protest outside the official residence of New York City Mayor Zahran Mamdani. The devices did not explode and no one was hurt. The incident is being investigated as a terrorist attempt inspired by ISIS.Public records show Kayumi’s parents live in a large, 5,800-square-foot house in Newtown, Pennsylvania, that has six bedrooms and five bathrooms.
The property is estimated to be worth $2.2 million to $2.25 million, according to the New York Post. Kayomi’s parents were born in Afghanistan and later became naturalized U.S. citizens in 2004 and 2009, according to law enforcement. There is no public evidence linking Kiyomi’s parents to the bomb plot. The authorities focused their investigations on the actions of the two suspects alone. The second suspect, Amir Balat, is also an American citizen. His parents were born in Türkiye and became naturalized US citizens in 2017.
Balat lived with his family in a detached Pennsylvania home worth about $653,000 in Langhorne, Bucks County. The FBI executed search warrants at both properties after the incident as part of a terrorism investigation. Law enforcement collected evidence from both homes, although no charges were filed against any of the suspects’ family members.According to police and prosecutors, Kiyomi and Balat were at the protest in Manhattan when the homemade explosive devices were thrown, which were described as capable of causing serious damage. At least one device contained a volatile compound used in international terrorist attacks. It was made up of nuts, bolts, and a fuse stored inside a jar.
