Nancy Guthrie status update: “Today” host Savannah Guthrie, her brother-in-law Tommaso Cioni and the rest of their family are facing intense scrutiny days after her 84-year-old mother disappeared. Journalist and attorney Megyn Kelly and comedian Zach Peter raised several questions targeting the Guthrie family this week.
Nancy Guthrie disappeared in the early hours of February 1, after having a late-night dinner with her other daughter, Annie, and her son-in-law, Sione. Authorities believe the 84-year-old woman was forcibly taken from her Tucson home. Several media outlets even received ransom letters from her alleged kidnappers, who reportedly demanded millions in Bitcoin.
No suspects have been named in the case yet. Doorbell camera footage released by the Pima County Police Department shows a masked and armed person breaking the camera.
Why are Savannah Guthrie and her family facing harsh criticism?
Megyn Kelly was speaking to Zach Peter on the February 19 episode of her podcast, “The Megyn Kelly Show,” when she raised some questions about the Guthrie family’s behavior.
“We have someone missing, and we see the family like they’re very small. There are no press conferences, we don’t see them searching for their mother… I try not to judge them. But like every day, I’m more and more curious about what’s really going on,” Zach said.
“That’s a very good point. We’ve seen very little of the Guthrie family. We haven’t even seen them out there, you know, joining in the search, or like helping out in the grid pattern where they walk the grounds. We haven’t seen…” Kelly pointed out. “Vigil prayer,” Zack interrupted.
“Or even a daily update, like this — ‘Please keep pressing, please keep looking for our mom.’ It’s like every once in a while they pop up like a 30-second video like, ‘If you have our mom, please bring her back.’ “It’s a little weird,” Kelly said.
Savannah Guthrie and her siblings, Camron and Annie, posted some videos on social media, demanding the safe return of their mother.
“There’s no sense of urgency,” Zach said.
Megyn Kelly calls for an investigation
Kelly said Nancy’s brother-in-law, who saw her on January 31, should be investigated. She said it would be a mistake not to look at Tommaso as a possible suspect.
