Nancy Guthrie Case Update: The mother of NBC ‘Today’ show host Savannah Guthrie was kidnapped last week. The case took a turn after Ashley Banfield’s report claimed that Tommaso Cioni, the husband of Annie Guthrie, Nancy’s son-in-law, had been identified as a suspect. However, authorities have confirmed that no suspects or persons of interest have been identified. On Wednesday, officers were seen crawling through Annie and Tommaso’s home in Tucson.

Savannah Guthrie, along with her siblings Annie and Cameron, spoke in a video message after mother Nancy’s abduction (via REUTERS)Savannah Guthrie, meanwhile, recorded a video showing her family preparing to negotiate with the kidnapper.

“We are ready to speak up. However, we live in a world where voice and image can be easily manipulated,” Savannah said. “We need to know without a doubt that he is alive and that you have him. We want to hear from you and we are ready to listen. Please contact us.”

Why was Nancy Guthrie kidnapped? New ransom detailsLocal news outlet KOLD anchor Mary Coleman said the Nancy Guthrie ransom note was sent to her newsroom. He elaborated on the possible reasons behind the abduction.

He said the note had a fixed amount and even mentioned a time limit.

“It’s a lot of information that only anyone would know who was holding him for ransom,” Coleman told CNN. “Some very sensitive information and things that people who weren’t there when he was captured didn’t know. It included a dollar amount, a time frame, and again, other specifics that only Guthrie’s captor would know, so that definitely raised some red flags.”

“We immediately forwarded that information to the sheriff’s department, and they’re definitely looking into the validity of it,” he said, adding that a detective ‘came back to us and asked us for some more information so they can start looking for an IP address and things of that nature and to find out who or who is responsible’.

Where is Nancy Guthrie?Nancy was last seen around 9:45 p.m. local time Saturday, when she was dropped off at home after having dinner with family, the sheriff’s department said. He was reported missing on Sunday afternoon after he failed to attend a church.

The family posted the message after police searched Nancy Guthrie’s home and neighborhood for several hours Wednesday.

Pima County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Kevin Edgar said investigators stayed at the home for a few days earlier in the week and then returned it to the family with the understanding they could return if needed.

“This is a follow-up investigation,” he said in reference to the officials who returned on Wednesday.
