A 28-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering former British politician Anne Widdicombe, as detectives continue to investigate the 78-year-old woman’s death at her home in Devon, The Guardian reported.Devon and Cornwall Police said the suspect was arrested at an address in South Yorkshire on Saturday evening. He remains in police custody.The arrest was made with the assistance of North East and South Yorkshire Counter Terrorism Police. Authorities said there is so far no evidence to suggest the case is terrorism-related, and Devon and Cornwall Police continue to lead the investigation.Police believe Widdecombe was assaulted at around 12.30pm on Wednesday, and said she may have been dead for around a day before ambulance crews discovered her body in her bungalow in Hightower at around 11.40am on Thursday.The latest arrest comes after a 26-year-old man who was being held in Newton Abbot was released on Friday without being charged and excluded from the investigation.Widdecombe’s death was announced by her management team on Friday. After initial investigations, counter-terrorism officers assessed the case before ruling out a politically motivated attack.Assistant Police Chief Matt Longman said investigators are withholding further details of the investigation, including descriptions of potential suspects and surveillance footage, to avoid compromising the investigation or affecting future lines of inquiry.
