Missing Nancy Guthrie: A former FBI agent has questioned the validity of a ransom note that was sent to several publications, demanding $6 million in restitution for the 84-year-old mother of Today co-host Savannah Guthrie.

(X/@JamesHartline)Nancy was last seen by her family on the evening of January 31 and was reported missing on Sunday. Investigators have since concluded that she was abducted, as suggested by evidence of forced entry into her residence.

“We believe now, after we process that crime scene, that we actually have a crime scene, that we actually have a crime, and we’re asking for the community’s help,” Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said.

Former FBI agent Agent Michael Harrigan weighs inThe note stated that a substantial amount of cash was required to be in “USD”, a detail that caught the attention of former FBI agent Michael Harrigan.

Speaking to the NY Post, he said, “If you’re domestic, why do you put ‘USD’? You put six lakhs.”

While there is no information about the sender of the ransom note, former FBI agents suggested that the note indicated that the sender was not in the United States.

“Why would you use it if you’re a domestic person? It refers to someone who might be out of the country,” he adds.

Harrigan, who directed the FBI National Academy, also noted that this detail made it more likely that it was “a scam.”

Harrigan also warned that Savannah and her family should refrain from paying any ransom for their missing mother until the alleged kidnappers prove to the world that she is still alive, according to a leading former FBI special agent.

Savannah and siblings released emotional videosSavannah and her siblings released a video Saturday evening addressing the senders of an alleged $6 million ransom note, indicating their willingness to pay — though the note’s authors offered no proof that Nancy was still alive, nor did they confirm whether they were in possession of the matriarch.

The only information provided in the note includes two allegedly supporting details from the crime scene, specifically Nancy’s Apple Watch and a floodlight at her residence, in addition to a Bitcoin address to transfer funds.

A second message emerged from the alleged kidnappers on Saturday; However, it did not present any new claims or information about Nancy’s condition, as reported by News Nation.

Although investigators did not verify the authenticity of the notes, Savannah and her siblings still decided to pay if it meant securing their mother’s return.
