“Missiles and drones heading towards American targets”: Iran warns of a “violent attack” after tanker strikes in the Gulf of Oman

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps warned on Saturday that any further attacks on Iranian oil tankers or commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz would lead to a “severe attack” on US military assets and ships in the region, amid rising tensions between Tehran and Washington in the Persian Gulf.In a statement published on X, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Naval Command said: “Warning! Any attack on Iranian oil tankers and commercial ships will lead to a violent attack on one of the American centers in the region and enemy ships.”

Shortly after, the IRGC Air Force claimed that Iranian missiles and drones were already targeting US military assets and naval vessels in the region. The post stated, “Missiles and drones belonging to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Air Force approached American targets in the region and the ships of the aggressor enemy. We are awaiting the order to fire.”This warning came a day after US Central Command announced that US Navy forces disabled two Iranian-flagged oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman as part of ongoing blockade operations against Iran.According to US Central Command, unloaded tankers M/T Sea Star III and M/T Sevda were denied access to Iranian ports after a US Navy F/A-18 Super Hornet was operating from the US aircraft carrier USS George HW.

Bush fired precision-guided munitions at ship smokestacks.US Central Command said US forces had disabled four Iranian ships since April 13 and redirected 58 commercial ships during the blockade. The latest developments follow an exchange of fire earlier this week between US naval forces and Iranian assets near the Strait of Hormuz, a major global energy transit route.US President Donald Trump confirmed on Thursday that three US Navy destroyers were attacked while crossing the strait, but said that the ships passed through the strait successfully. In a post on Truth Social, Trump said the two destroyers “crossed very successfully” despite being fired upon by Iranian forces. He also claimed that Iranian naval boats participating in the confrontation were “completely destroyed,” and said that missiles and drones targeting American ships had been intercepted.Iranian media, citing the IRGC, separately repeated the warning on Saturday, saying that any attack on Iranian tankers would lead to retaliation against “American centers in the region and enemy ships.”The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most strategically important sea lanes, carrying a large share of global oil shipments.
