Microsoft defends Asha Sharma, says she's a US executive and Xbox layoffs have nothing to do with H-1B

Microsoft responds to trolling of Asha Sharma after she announced layoffs at Xbox.

When Asha Sharm, CEO of Xbox, was subjected to fierce trolling after Microsoft’s gaming division announced the elimination of 3,200 jobs, Microsoft came to the rescue and made it clear that it had nothing to do with replacing Americans with foreign workers.

Frank X.

What Frank X Shaw said during his layoff from Xbox Asha Sharma

  1. Recent changes have been made to the workforce to restructure the XBOX business as it is not healthy. It was not created to replace employees with foreign workers.
  2. The H-1B numbers referenced are Microsoft-level visa renewals and new employment applications. They are not specific to XBOX and represent a small percentage of the total workforce at Microsoft. Most of the affected roles were not American roles.
  3. XBOX is the largest employer of American workers in the gaming industry and the largest American gaming company.
  4. Asha is an American-born, raised, and educated executive from Wisconsin.

The statement came as a MAGA narrative claimed foreigners are hijacking American jobs in Xbox layoffs, and one widely circulated post claimed, “Indian Xbox CEO Asha Sharma just announced the firing of 3,200 Americans. She applied for 5,000 H-1B visas this year.”And Frank X. Shaw’s clarification couldn’t douse the fire either. “With no experience in gaming, an Indian woman was hired as a CEO in a field she had no experience in by an Indian at a higher level and decided to lay off thousands of Americans and replace them with Indian H1b scammers,” one person wrote.Another wrote: “No one cares where you were born. Indians follow the same pattern everywhere they go, kicking out Americans, hiring Indians.”

Asha Sharma gets a new role amid great controversy

Amid the controversy over layoffs, Sharma was chosen to lead a task force by the US Federal Reserve. US Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh announced the names of the leaders of five task forces formed to study the central bank’s approach to monetary policy and propose transformative changes. Among the leaders mentioned by Warsh are three people of Indian origin: former Reserve Bank of India Governor Raghuram Rajan, Harvard economics professor Raj Shetty and Asha Sharma. In announcing the leadership, Warsh said: “The goal is clear and straightforward: to ensure that the Fed is best positioned to achieve our goals at this important time.” Sharma will manage the Task Force on Productivity and Employment.
