A 23-year-old Malaysian social media influencer was fined RM40,000 (approx ₹9.2 lakh) after posting an offensive video showing three teenage boys feeding rice to a homeless man mixed with chicken bones. According to a report by Mothership, the influencer, identified as Tang Si Luk, pleaded guilty to knowingly creating and uploading highly offensive content.
Tang deleted the video and publicly apologized. (Instagram/@aluk_77)Tang first uploaded the video to Chinese social media platform Douyin on August 3, 2025, before sharing it on Instagram. The now-deleted video began with a voiceover saying, “Today we’re going to do an act of kindness.” It then showed three teenage boys eating fried chicken pieces from a KFC box before commenting that “it would be a waste to throw away the bones.“They pack the bones with rice and give the scraps to a homeless man.

How did the victim react? The video soon sparked outrage online, with many condemning the teenagers’ behavior. “The victim also said that she felt humiliated and angry at the actions of the accused. It was not an act of charity. It was a calculated act of exploitation, using human suffering to create social media content for entertainment and public attention,” the prosecutor said, according to the outlet.
Tang, who did not have legal representation, requested the minimum fine, citing his remorse and apology. He also admitted to uploading the video, which lasted more than a minute.
However, Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission deputy public prosecutor Fadi Ab Wahab pushed for a deterrent sentence, arguing that the act was not charitable but exploitative.
The judge awarded the influencer RM40,000 (approx ₹9.2 lakh) fine and four months imprisonment for failure to do so. However, he is said to have paid the money soon after the verdict was announced.
Tang deleted the video and publicly apologized. “I sincerely regret this chicken bone incident. Next I’m going to transform myself in a whole new way to present it to everyone,” she wrote in an Instagram post.

Respond via social mediaDespite the apology, social media users continued to condemn Tang’s actions. “You’re an adult and still don’t understand basic right and wrong. Giving a homeless person a chicken bone is not satisfaction – it’s disrespect. Go find the person you hurt and apologize to them. Your audience doesn’t need forgiveness. He does,” one user wrote.
“Inexcusable! Even thinking about such content is unimaginable. Only a sick person would do this. Show respect and kindness to the homeless man and prove it to the frustrated Malaysians instead of talking without taking any relevant action,” commented another.
“If you’re really serious you should apologize to the guy and do something for the homeless,” wrote a third user.
