Canadian freelance journalist Max Genest received a death threat after posting a video about Gurbartap Singh Khalsa, a Sikh content creator who was asked to leave a gym in Windsor, Ontario, for carrying a kirpan, a ceremonial blade worn as part of the Sikh faith.“Find this white guy in Winnipeg and show him some love,” a user named @prabh.xx07 commented below the video, along with a knife emoji and a heart emoji.Sharing a screenshot on X (formerly Twitter), Genest wrote: “An Indian residing in Canada threatened to stab me and named my city after me.”
Genest also described this person as dangerous, and said that people who make such threats should be deported. The exchange came after Genest commented on a widely circulated video showing the Khalsa conflicting with a gym employee’s request to leave the building after another member raised concerns about the visible kirpan he was carrying. In the footage, the employee tells Khalsa that the gym is a private business and that the staff must prioritize the safety of members and staff.Khalsa, who recorded and posted the interaction on TikTok, claimed he was unfairly targeted because of his religious belief and described the incident as discriminatory.
