“I’ll tell you, Patrick, since I’ve been coming into this office, Elon and his team have been very helpful to me,” she said. “They helped me identify that some of my employees working in my department had downloaded software on my phone and laptop to spy on me and record our meetings.”Noem alleged that staff spied on several political appointees before she took action.“They did this to many politicians,” she added. “So we ended up bringing people in, and that was something that, if you didn’t have the technology experts here in the department looking at all our laptops and phones and learning about this type of software, it would still happen today.”Noem said the perpetrators were “brought in, exposed and expelled.” She also said her office requested regular inspections of eavesdropping devices and discovered a secret file room containing confidential documents now in the hands of lawyers.
