Karen Mulder, the Dutch supermodel who rose to fame in the 90s, has become the subject of renewed interest since the release of the Epstein files. The Justice Department on Friday released the final layer of documents related to the late convicted child sex offender, Jeffrey Epstein.

Karen Mulder is a Dutch supermodel from the 90s who shockingly claimed to have been raped by multiple powerful men and has received renewed interest following the release of the Epstein files. (X/@EvaLovesDesign)Although Mulder’s name does not appear directly in the files, he has come up in online conversations that revolve around past instances that may shed light on Epstein’s network operations. Gabriela Rico Jimenez, a Mexican model, is another such name that has come up. He alleges he was at a party in Mexico in 2009 where he saw people ‘eating’ someone. Shortly after making this sensational claim, Jimenez disappeared.

Mulder did not meet the same fate, but went into hiding shortly after being claimed. Given that the Epstein files have reignited discussions about the world’s rich and elite, many of whom appear in the documents, here’s what to know about Mulder and what’s being said about him.

Who is Karen Mulder?Mulder is a Dutch supermodel from the 90s who has worked with brands such as Valentino, Versace, Yves Saint Laurent, Giorgio Armani and Chanel. She also signed with Victoria’s Secret in 1992. However, her reputation took a hit in the 1980s and 1990s, when in a 2001 interview, Mulder claimed that she had been raped by many men.

She appeared on the French television show, Tout le Monde en Perle (Everybody’s Talking About It), when she said she had been raped by powerful people, including police officers, politicians and people associated with her former modeling agency. The interview was not shown and the recording was deleted.

Shortly thereafter, Mulder repeated the claims in an interview in Paris. Hours after the incident, he was reportedly taken to the Villa Montsouris psychiatric clinic in Paris by his sister. Mulder is believed to have been there for five months. The stay was reportedly paid for by Gerald Mary, formerly CEO of Elite Model Management Europe. It should be noted that Marie herself has faced multiple allegations of sexual abuse.

Mulder reportedly struggled with chronic depression and survived a suicide attempt in 2002. Since then, he has largely disappeared from the public eye. In 2009, a report surfaced that he had threatened to attack a plastic surgeon, but information about Mulder has been sparse since he decided to live a private life.

Karen Mulder reacts to the incidentMulder’s story is being widely discussed online in relation to the Epstein file and the network of powerful people who revealed it. Notably, there is no direct link between Mulder and these men, except that his claims were also about powerful men engaging in sexual abuse.

“In the ’90s, Dutch supermodel Karen Mulder blew the whistle on Epstein’s network—long before anyone listened. They locked her in an asylum, destroyed her career, tried to bury her,” one person wrote on X.

Another added, “This is the real Epstein whistleblower, Dutch supermodel Karen Mulder. She lost her career, was drugged and put in a psych ward to talk. Don’t forget her because she is a hero.”
