Alleged photo of 43-year-old Border Patrol agent Jesus Ochoa and 35-year-old Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Officer Raymundo Gutierrez were identified as federal immigration agents after the shooting. Alex Pretty Died in Minneapolis, according to government records seen by ProPublica.

Both of them have been placed on administrative leave. The Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division announced it is investigating the shooting.

What we know about Jesus Ochoa and Raymundo GutierrezBoth Ochoa and Gutierrez were assigned to Operation Metro Surge, an immigration enforcement operation that began in December that sent armed agents to Minneapolis. Agents reportedly fired about 10 shots during the struggle with Pretti, who was documenting the movements of federal agents in a popular Minneapolis food and arts district.

Ochoa, a Border Patrol agent, joined CBP in 2018. Gutierrez, who joined in 2014, works for CBP’s Office of Field Operations, and is assigned to a special response team, which conducts high-risk operations, such as police SWAT units. They are both residents of South Texas, according to records.

Senator John Curtis, a Utah Republican, wrote on social media last week, “We must have a transparent, independent investigation into the Minnesota shooting, and those responsible—regardless of their title—must be held accountable. Officers who rush to justice before knowing all the facts undermine public trust and the mission of law enforcement.”

“I disagree with Secretary Noem’s premature DHS response, which came before all the facts were known and undermined confidence. I will work with a bipartisan group of senators to demand real oversight and transparency, including support calls. [Rand Paul] To testify to the leaders of these operations, so that confidence can be restored and justice done,” he added.

Nayem has faced calls for resignation After handling his fall after two men were killed by federal agents – Pretty and Renee Nicole Goode. House Democratic leaders even threatened to launch impeachment proceedings in a joint statement if Noem is not fired “immediately.” Some Republicans, including Sens. Tom Tillis and Lisa Murkowski, have called for Noem to resign.

Noem quickly defended federal agents after Pretty’s fatal shooting, claiming Pretty approached the officers with a gun “intending to do harm,” adding that he “violently resisted” when they “attempted to disarm” him. However, eyewitness video appeared to contradict the narrative, revealing that Pretty was not armed during the confrontation with ICE agents.
