'Everything's been destroyed': Trump on Iranian strikes says he 'may have forced Israel's hand'

Trump speaks to reporters with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz

US President Donald Trump on Tuesday addressed the ongoing escalation in Iran following the joint operation with Israel that resulted in the killing of Supreme Leader Khamenei. Trump claimed that “everything was destroyed” and that he “may have forced Israel’s hand” because he believed Iran “would have attacked first” otherwise.“Almost everything has been destroyed,” Trump told reporters, speaking about the situation in Iran during his meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.

Referring to “Operation Epic Fury”, he claimed that Iran had lost its air defences, and warned that the country would “get a lot of hurt”, describing its leadership as “bad people”.Trump said the joint strikes, which killed Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, were necessary because Tehran was preparing to strike.

“I think they would have attacked first, and I didn’t want that to happen,” he said. “So, I probably would have forced Israel to do so.”He also justified the action by asserting that Iran’s leadership would have used a nuclear weapon if it had obtained one, calling its ideology “deeply evil” and describing the country as a “purveyor of terrorism.” Trump added: “Something had to be done. It’s been 47 years. They’ve been killing people all over the world for a long time.”

Trump also criticized parts of Europe for their response. Criticizing other countries, Trump said: “Some European countries have been helpful, some haven’t, and I’m very surprised. Germany was great… Spain was terrible. In fact, I asked Scott to cut off all dealings with Spain,” adding that he was “not happy with the UK either.”
