Americans woke up to the news of the missile attack on Iran on Saturday, February 28, which the president confirmed Donald TrumpThe United States entered into a joint strike with Israel against Iran after the latter failed to meet Trump’s nuclear standards. Now that the United States and Israel are talking about the attack, does this indicate a war with Iran?
Here’s what we know so far about the situation as it develops.
Why did the United States attack Iran?
As we mentioned previously, the United States launched a joint strike with Israel against Iran because of the Iranian nuclear program. Trump urged Tehran to meet his expectations on this issue, but since they did not do so, the Americans fired missiles at Iran.
“We will destroy their missiles and destroy their missile industry on the ground,” Trump said in a statement that day. He added: “We will annihilate their naval forces, and we will ensure that terrorist agents in the region can no longer destabilize the region and the world.”
In an eight-minute video, Trump also stated that the reason behind the missile attack was due to a longstanding problem between the United States and Iran dating back to the 1970s.
Is the United States at war with Iran?
No one had officially declared war as of press time, but Trump warned the public that US service members could lose their lives due to the military operation. He said, “The lives of brave American heroes may be lost, and we may fall victim. This often happens in war, but we do it for the future.”
After the missiles struck Iran, the country responded by targeting the headquarters of the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet in the island kingdom, according to multiple media outlets. According to PBS, explosions were heard in Qatar and Kuwait, where the US Army Central Command is based.
Trump also encouraged Iranians to shelter in their homes and overthrow their government when they can.
The Republican president said: “To the great and proud people of Iran, I say tonight: The hour of your freedom has approached.” “Stay protected. Do not leave your homes. It is very dangerous outside. Bombs will fall everywhere. When we are finished, take control of your government. It will be yours for the taking. This may be your only chance for many generations.”
