Indian student missing in US since 2019: FBI's social media post on Mayushi Bhagat sparks confusion

The FBI post about Mayoshi Bhagat, who disappeared in the US in 2019, has sparked confusion.

The FBI’s social media post about a reward of up to $10,000 for any information leading to the “recovery” of Mayushi Bhagat has created confusion as the Indian student has been missing since 2019.

The reward amount is also not new but is the same as the one previously announced by the agency. There is no update on the case, and the agency published the same old information about Bahjat, who was last seen in the evening hours of April 29, 2019, leaving her apartment in New Jersey. “She was last seen wearing colorful pajama pants and a black shirt. Her family reported her missing on May 1, 2019. She was attending the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) in New York City, and was in the United States on an F1 student visa,” the FBI said. According to reports from the time Mayoshi went missing, her father, Vikas Bhagat, reported her missing after she did not return home on May 3, 2019. Vikas told the cops that he last had a WhatsApp conversation with Mayoshi on May 1 around 3 am in which she said she was fine but would not return home until May 3. The language of the letter raised suspicions as Vikas told the cops that the letter was written in broken English but Mayushi spoke fluently. in English.

It was suspected that the message was sent by someone who had her mobile phone at the time.

The FBI’s post created confusion as many social media users believed the agency began investigating in 2026. The fact is that the FBI’s social media account posted the same update multiple times in the past seven years. One wrote: “She was missing in 2019 and only posted an hour ago..?? Why?? Your department is incapable and not working at full capacity.” “It’s been 7 years and she’s still missing…. I hope she’s alive physically and mentally and will be found soon!!!” another wrote. He asked, “How can America be a superpower when it has not been able to find a person who has been missing since 2019?” a third user wrote. Another commented: “A superpower country is unable to protect its citizens and tourists. How dirty this country is…” “Did you guys just find out that she’s been missing for the past seven years?” another wrote.
