Immigration lawyer Rahul Reddy says the stereotype of Indian managers as only hiring Indians is wrong. He said his law firm does not have an Indian partner even though he founded the company.
Immigration lawyer Rahul Reddy said he was witnessing the social media narrative that Indians in the US would only hire Indians and H-1B holders. He said he founded the law firm Reddy-Neumann Brown C, but none of the lawyers at his firm are Indian.
These comments came at a time when Texas whistleblower Sarah Gonzalez was going after H-1B employers and knocking on the doors of Indian-origin employees. Most of these companies are staffing companies that hire H-1Bs from India for other clients, so their registered offices often don’t have employees, but Gonzalez, in her YouTube videos, cornered some of the employees and showed that these employees don’t have all the answers.Another news that sparked the “Indians only hire Indians” narrative on social media was the update that Chinese-American assistant professor, Dr. Xun Wangm, filed a lawsuit against Southern Methodist University in Texas accusing department head Dr. Hemang Desai of favoring only Indians.“Social media vigilantes do a lot of homework, which we like, before they go after some people, but the way they figure it out is that if there is an Indian director, they will only hire Indians or H-1Bs,” Reddy said during his weekly immigration update, alongside Emily Newman. “I started my own law firm but none of my partners are Indian.” Rahul Reddy founded Reddy Neumann Brown PC in 1997. The company’s current partners are Crystal Alanis, Rebecca Chen, Emmylou Neumann, Steven Brown, and Ryan Wilke. It’s true that there is fraud in the H-1B program as there is in every other government scheme, but that doesn’t mean the whole process is bad and everyone involved is a bad actor, Newman said.
“The US government has announced that there are fewer STEM skills overall and that they are more encouraging US citizens to study STEM degrees. Demand is high and companies are not finding enough US citizens in STEM. But a false image is being presented on social media about H-1Bs and we want to correct that,” Reddy said.
