Ilhan Omar is now claiming that her millionaire ex-husband was paid as little as $200 last year
Ilhan Omar is facing backlash over her family’s finances after new disclosure forms indicated a sharp decline in her husband’s earnings, with documents indicating he only earned a few hundred dollars last year, the New York Post reports.According to reports based on Omar’s 2025 financial disclosure, her husband Tim Minnette is listed as having received no salary from his investment firm Rose Lake Capital during the period in question. The only related income came from a California wine company, eStCru, which earned between $200 and $1,000 before it closed earlier this year, the filing states. This represents a significant change from the previous year, when disclosures indicated the couple’s business interests could be worth between $5 million and $30 million.
These numbers sparked controversy about how to calculate the evaluation. An amended filing was later filed, in which the value of those properties was revised to zero. The adjustment is due to an accounting error.Even with the revised numbers, Rose Lake Capital still shows it generated between $100,000 and $1 million in revenue during the same period, along with a now-shuttered wine business that brought in a few thousand dollars before ceasing operations.
The latest 2025 disclosure also sets the couple’s total assets at between $20,000 and $125,000, with liabilities including credit card and student loan debt estimated at between $30,000 and $100,000. This would put their net position at a negative number. These changes have drawn renewed criticism from political opponents, particularly in light of previous filings that showed a sudden rise in estimated wealth. In 2024, the pair had trade values that appeared to jump into the multi-million dollar range before later being revised downward.A spokesperson for Ilhan Omar told TMZ: “The amended disclosure confirms what we have said all along: The congresswoman is not a millionaire. The original filing was based on incomplete information from Mr. Minnette’s business accountants in good faith and respect for professional judgment.”“The rep continues…” She listed assets but not liabilities, and she significantly overstated her husband’s net worth. The accounting error created a misleading picture of much greater wealth.
The Congresswoman voluntarily amended her disclosures once the discrepancy was identified. The revised disclosure is now complete and accurate.”The controversy comes amid political scrutiny and follows a period in which Omar’s financial files drew attention during separate concerns related to fraud investigations linked to social services programs in Minnesota.Minnette has worked in Democratic political circles for nearly two decades and co-founded Rose Lake Capital in 2022 with longtime colleague Will Hailer.
He previously worked alongside Hailer in 2012 during efforts associated with Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison’s re-election campaign to Congress.Ellison later gave up his House seat in 2018, a move that paved the way for Omar’s election, with Hyler previously saying he played a role in the transition. In previous reports, Mynett’s eStCru wine venture sold bottles including “The Devil’s Lie” before closing its doors this year.Delaney Bomar, spokeswoman for the Republican National Committee, said in response to these leaks:“Voters are seeing right through Ilhan Omar’s corrupt lies,” Delaney Bomar, spokeswoman for the Republican National Committee, told the New York Post. “She has spent her entire career covering up Democrats’ fraud that has cost taxpayers billions, so it is no surprise that she would do the same to her husband.”
