HBO is pulling a magic trick with its upcoming TV adaptation of Harry Potter. Now that the famous wizarding world is coming to the small screen, fans know who will be playing some of the adult characters at Hogwarts.
“We are pleased to announce the selection John Lithgow, Janet McTeer, Baba Essiedu, Nick Frost, Luke Thellon and Paul Whitehouse To play the roles of Dumbledore, McGonagall, Snape, Hagrid, Quirrell and Filch, showrunner and executive producer Francesca Gardiner and director Mark Mylod said in a statement. “We are thrilled to have such extraordinary talent on board, and we can’t wait to see them bring these beloved characters to new lives.”
HBO described the television series as a “faithful adaptation” of JK Rowlingbooks. “Explore every corner of the Wizarding World, each season will bring Harry Potter “And her amazing adventures for new and existing audiences,” the description reads.
In May 2025, the show finally found its main cast to play Harry, Ron, and Hermione: Dominic McLaughlin, Alastair Stout and Arabella Stanton. Two months later, filming of the series began.

John Lithgow – Albus Dumbledore
