He was joined by senior national security officials, including Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, along with his children Eric Trump and Tiffany Trump and their spouses. The conference came as a US Air Force F-15E fighter jet was shot down over southwestern Iran, forcing its two-man crew to jump into hostile territory and begin a large-scale rescue operation.
After nearly two days of coordinated military and intelligence efforts, the pilots were successfully recovered, although the mission involved significant equipment losses. This is what the US President said in the press conference
- Amid the approaching deadline for opening the Strait of Hormuz, he said: “It is possible to get Iran out in one night, and that night may be tomorrow night.”
- The US President said, referring to the pilots’ rescue operation, that “US military personnel faced gunfire from a very close range during the rescue operation in Iran,” adding that “God was watching us” while talking about its success.
- “I have ordered the United States Armed Forces to do whatever is necessary to bring our brave warriors home… In the United States Army, we leave no American behind,” the US President also said while providing details on how the US Army rescued the pilots.
- He added, “The second rescue mission in Iran involved 155 aircraft.” Trump also said that more than 170 American military aircraft were deployed in the Iran rescue mission, including 21 in the first operation and 155 in the second, adding that two transport planes were destroyed after they got stuck in the sand.
- Donald Trump claimed that details of the Iranian pilot’s rescue operation were leaked. He said he would “ask the media organization to reveal the name” of the source of the rescue leak in Iran, warning that it was a “national security” issue and that the person responsible could face prison if he did not cooperate. He added, “We have to find that leaker because he is a sick person… They put this mission at great risk.”
- He continued: He revealed more details, saying, “The plane included four bombers, 64 fighters, 48 refueling tankers, 13 rescue planes, and others.”
- Donald Trump also said that the rescued pilot was hiding in the Iranian mountains and continued to climb to improve his chances of recovery, describing the mission as “like finding a needle in a haystack.”
- “As Commander-in-Chief, I will never forget the extraordinary risks taken by the warriors we send into battle — and the genius,” Trump said.
- The US President said in Operation Epic Rage: “Over the past 37 days, the US Armed Forces have carried out more than 10,000 combat sorties over Iran, striking more than 13,000 targets.” He added: “It is an unparalleled record in the history of military air operations.”
- Justifying his attacks on Iran, he said: “The Iranians want us to continue bombing because they want freedom.”
American officials also took the stageApart from Donald Trump, other senior officials also spoke about the operation.John Ratcliffe said the CIA carried out a deception campaign to mislead Iranian forces searching for the downed pilots, adding: “It was like finding a needle in a haystack,” as he confirmed that one of them had been found alive before they were successfully recovered.
He said intelligence information later indicated that Iran was “embarrassed” by the operation.“Our forces turned a potential tragedy into a resounding display of American resolve and capability,” Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said, adding that the mission demonstrated American military excellence. He also warned his opponents that the United States would act “anywhere, anytime” to protect its personnel, and praised Trump for directing that no one be left behind.Meanwhile, Dan Kaine, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, called the mission “incredibly dangerous,” but said it fulfilled a promise to American warfighters that they “will not be left behind.” He added that the operations reflect the US military’s “most sacred commitment” to always bring its personnel home.
